Features of the 123/Mercedes-4-R electronic ignition
Next to the standard-curves, the unit offers optimized advance-curves for driving on LPG or E85, the new Bio-Ethanol-fuel of the future. The unit has a built-in LED for easy static timing and several different advance-curves.
It also offers:
- Automatic dwell
- Automatic power-cut after 1 second
Please note the following about the 123/Mercedes-4-R
For engines WITH vacuum advance, please order a 123/MERCEDES-4-R-V.
For cars with fuel injection-systems, a 123/MERCEDES-4-R-V-IE is available.
Please read the installation manual carefully. It contains more information about motor- and distributor numbers, static timing and the advance-curves, the specifications of the 123ignition and a step-by-step description of the installation procedure.
In addition to the information in the installation manual the following curves are available:
Curve B - distributor no. VJU4BR14/22/27/29 - Type 180a, 190 - compr. 1:6,8
Curve C - distributor no. VJURBR28 - Type 180b - compr. 1:7,0
Curve D - distributor no. VJ4BR11, VJR4BR24 - Type 190SL - compr. 1:8,5/8,8
Curve F - distributor no. VR4BR15 - Borgward Isabella 1,493 lts. 4 Cyl. without vacuum
! With the Borgward Isabella it is UTMOST important to static time the ignition at TDC. In case of fine adjusting with the stroboscope this must be done above 3200 rpm at 34 degrees.
Coils and spark plugs
Although used coils all look alike, they should be viewed with suspicion since one cannot tell from the outside whether, and how often they were exposed to overheating in the past. Installing the 123ignition system will ensure that the coil will never be overheated again in future. We recommend the 123 Blue Coil.
